Ashley Johnson

Writer, casual philomath, lover of lavender mochas.

Nobody ever told me I had to go through life as a one-trick pony. I am a military veteran and a free spirit; an embracer of technology who insists on reading books on paper; a Pinterest-mom wannabe who still buys store-made cookies.

The only line I’ll draw in the sand: a great steak doesn’t require dressing and shouldn’t be cooked more than medium-rare. Although I do love a good bacon wrap and mushrooms on top.

The rest of the story: I joined the Air Force when I was 17 years old, and spent the first 16 years of adulthood flying airplanes, leading airmen, and traveling the world. During my time on active duty, I was lucky enough to fly four airframes, complete four deployments, earn my master’s degree, and meet an incredible number of people I feel fortunate lucky to call my brothers and sisters in arms.

I transitioned to civilian life in October 2020, and since then have enjoyed a second career in writing, editing, and digital marketing. In that time I have worked in both traditional magazine publishing and in the digital realm of blogs, SEO and social media. I find freelance work is the perfect combination of new adventures and helping others craft content that fits their needs.
